England captain Ben Stokes called their recent victory over Team India in the first test of the five-match series as his best ever since taking over the captaincy of the England Test team.
England beat India by 28 runs on Sunday, January 28, at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Ben Stokes‘ leadership, coupled with Brendon McCullum’s coaching, saw England adopt Bazball—a daring cricket style that brought them widespread success.
Many questioned Bazball’s viability against quality spinners in Indian conditions before the first Test, but England silenced critics with a thumping win.
“Since I’ve taken the captaincy on, where we are and who we’re playing against, it’s 100% our greatest victory,” Stokes said in the post-match presentation.
Stokes, who was leading in India for the first time, said that he observed how the hosts played in the first innings and planned things accordingly.
“My first time coming out here and being captain in these conditions. I’m a great observer, I’ve watched how India operates in the field,” he added.
